Microsoft IT professional: Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)

The Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certification provides proof of your ability to design, implement, and manage SQL Server 2000 databases. If you work with SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2012 databases, see below for our recommended certifications.

Individuals who hold the MCDBA certification have proven their ability to design, implement, and manage the administration of SQL Server 2000 databases. While three exams that are included in the requirements for earning this certification are still available, all other required exams are retired.

We recommend the following SQL Server certifications—choose one that reflects your job role, career goals, and version of SQL Server: 
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Data Platform—for database professionals who build enterprise-scale data solutions on-premise or in cloud environments
  • MCSE: Business Intelligence—for database professionals who develop and deploy business intelligence solutions and reports.
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certifications: for database professionals who design, implement, build on, troubleshoot, and support SQL Server 2008 solutions
  • Microsoft Certified Master (MCM): for senior-level IT professionals who seek in-depth and comprehensive training on implementing SQL Server 2008 solutions
Certifications
 
To earn the Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) credential, you must pass four exams (in any order):
  • One Microsoft SQL Server Administration exam
  • One SQL Server Design exam
  • One Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 exam
  • One elective exam
Note All exams in this certification track are retired, Except the following Exams:

  • Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure: Exam 70-291
  • Planning and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure: Exam 70-293
